Il seguito di "The Inner Mounting Flame" (1971) vede un John McLaughlin alla chitarra a 6 e 12 corde in stato di grazia. Il resto della band non è da meno, il tastierista Jan hammer, il violinista Jerry Goodman, il bassista Rick Laird e il frenetico batterista Billy Cobham non perdono un colpo.
