Louis Armstrong - Gold (Hip-O Records, 2006)

Nella storia del jazz ci sono Duchi e Conti e anche Presidenti, (Ellington, Basie, Lester Young), c'è anche un re (Joe Oliver), ma per il più grande di tutti, per il primo che ha parlato il linguaggio del jazz toccando le vette universali della poesia non ci sono che un paio di piccoli, affettuosi vezzeggiativi: << Pops>> e <<Satchmo>>. Come tutti i personaggi autenticamente storici, anche Louis è sopravvissuto alla sua epoca, i favolosi Anni Venti, quando si ritagliò in completa solitudine la parte del solisata puro mettendo a fuoco una volta per tutte le regole di un lessico musicale che prima di lui era ancora folclore; è sopravvissuto portando in giro per il mondo la sua immagine, la sua voce, il suo <<swing>> che gli permettevano di uscire con dignità in tutte le occasioni che il successo gli metteva invariabilmente di fronte. E così fu grandissimo artista e poi showman, attore di se stesso, ambasciatore autentico di una musica che aveva profondamente segnato come nessun altro dopo di lui.
